THE STORY OF
OUR CHURCH

1st Church Site | 1980

In 1980 Pastor Bill and Barb Hilligoss were on a motorcycle ride and spotted a little country church in a little community called “Florida” in Anderson, IN. The Church of God congregation in the area purchased the church and named the church after a railroad station nearby, and that’s how Florida Station Church of God was born.

2nd Church Site | March 30, 1997

In 1996, Pastor Jerry Hilligoss came to be the head pastor of Florida Station Church. After that, the church began to experience great growth. In 1 year the congregation grew from 25 people to almost 100. This meant they needed to find a new place to meet. On Easter of 1997 services were moved to Leach Elementary School just a mile away from the original building site.

New Build, Phase 1 | October 1998

In October 1998 we purchased 8.5 acres of corn field property and broke ground on our new building. The church was built by the people of the church led and guided by Pastor Bill Hilligoss and Pastor Jerry Hilligoss. The official opening of the church was in February 2000 to a congregation of about 135 worshippers.

New Build, Phase 2 | October 2008

In October 2008 we broke ground on the Family Life Center. Again, it was built by the people of the church and opened in August 2009. This building opened up our church to better connect with younger families and to facilitate community events.

New Build, Phase 3 | March 2022

When our building was built in 1998, we knew that we could flip the sanctuary 90 degrees when/if needed. The plan was talked about for years and finally in March 2022 our congregation had grown so much that construction on the sanctuary was started. By flipping the sanctuary, we gained almost 100 more seats for the congregation, and we were able to update and upgrade some of our technology.
